Artist Statement:
My work explores the kinetic illusion of motion pictures, whether seen in traditional film and narrative structures, or in projection art pieces of varied contexts. Film is a language, and it can be taken from the rectangle and splashed across surfaces and into the world. The safety of art is that one can view a dangerous animal without fear of being mauled. I don’t want the frame and glass that prevents the mauling of the viewer to be too obvious.
Bio:
Emmar Grant grew up in Texas with a family that loved road trips through the continental United States, and came to understand that there are unvisited worlds filled with new feelings that could only be remembered and not brought back. Films were like spaces that could reliably be reproduced. Emmar studied film at the University of Texas at Arlington. He maintains a career in film and video, and enjoys the authorship of gallery based new media.
